A triviality,

In the underworld of the World of Art, there are hundreds of urban legends circulating from MOUTH to MOUTH, which may or may not be true, and that no one ever confirms.

One of those legends, that lives in an old dismal and chipped building, on a dead end, whispers in my ear that some time ago they asked Renoir how he managed to give that delicate and suggestive aspect to his nudes; To which the painter replied:

“I do nothing more than paint, paint and continue painting, until I feel like pinching the canvas. Then I know it’s already perfect.”

Pierre Auguste-Renoir works will remain at the Thyssen Museum in Madrid until January 22nd, 2017.

It is the first retrospective of the French artist in Spain, more than 75 works from the most important collections and museums in the world, such as the National Gallery in London and the Metropolitan of New York. The curator of the expo is the director of the Thyssen Museum, Guillermo Solana.

The from MOUTH to MOUTH at the bottom of the World of Art, insinuates that the critic Kenneth Baker said of Renoir’s works that are OVERSWEET and SUGARES, and that the journalist Ariella Budick wrote in the Financial Times “His straightforward charm seems sugary to palates hooked on bitterness”.

On the other hand, it is surprising that one of the most valued artists of the 20th century, whose work Dance at the Moulin de la Galette was sold at Sotheby’s for an exorbitant amount of cash, is now, by the end of 2016, one of the most reviled and criticized painters on the planet, and whose quotation falls day by day in a spectacular way.

But, beloved, should not we be a little more sympathetic to Renoir? I wonder.

At the end of the day he was another artist tired of suffering economic hardship that cleverly changed his style to sell more paintings.

Renoir left Impressionism to paint what the millionaires of his moment bought: charming girls and naked women frolicking in the countryside. And beloved, to paint these Kitsch Things turned Renoir into a rich and famous man, until the Louvre and the National Gallery fought for their canvases.

However, the quality of his work fell down sharply, and artists like Degas or Picasso made fun of it. I imagine Renoir answering his colleagues “Ande yo caliente, y ríase la gente” (Luís de Góngora quote) while laughing all the way to the bank.

Mi Kitsch Kitchen takes advantage of its stay in Madrid to visit the worst Renoir in history, and checks in situ how the BANALITY can be glorified by installing an abandoned garden. A sensorial experience that seeks to be the trigger of a more intimate relationship between the work of art and the viewer, they announce.

And how the hell do they get it? You will ask.

It´s easy, let me explain to you: Installing a darkened room where you put opaque glasses over your eyes and some hooves in the ears to be able to blindly touch the relief reproduction of the picture Woman with umbrella in the garden and listen to the soothing hum of thousands of bees while sniffing a few containers which contain the fragrances of the flowers and plants that are represented on the canvas.

Cowabunga, baby! It´s Beautiful. Divine. YOLO.
